What is the Relationship between Religion and Enlightenment? Let's find out...
What is the relationship between religion and enlightenment? If we take a look at some of the most celebrated texts in each of the worlds major faith traditions, we can get a sense of the unity of the same fundamental truth expressed in each tradition. Although the metaphors and expressions may be different – God, the Way, Allah, Buddha – there is a single and universal truth that forms their essence.
In each of the world religions, we can see that the enlightenment experiences of teachers, prophets, disciples and mystics formed the truth and strength of a particular faith. I encourage you to read and examine the following excerpts and texts from the perspective of the enlightenment experience. You will start to see that while the language, symbolism, style and metaphors may change, there is an essential truth that we all need to discover in order to really live a happy and complete life.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking that you and I in our modern age are incapable of attaining spiritual awakening or for some reason this is no longer needed. Actually, there has never been a time when a return to spiritual roots was so needed and when we had such an array of information and teachers to provide guidance.
Through meditation practice, deep questioning, and determined effort, we can join the millions worldwide that have dedicated themselves to finding a new meaning for a spiritual lifestyle in our modern society.
